BIO

Angela Fragkou is a Greek new media artist, researcher and bioscientist with a background in organic chemistry and visual arts. Her artistic research and practice combines biosciences, digital technologies, ecological materiality and experimental processes to explore materiality, perception and the relations between humans, living systems and their environments. Working between art and science, Fragkou uses scientific methodologies, real data, invented parameters and ecological concerns as material for artistic experimentation. Her recent research focuses on structural colour, bio-derived materials, bacterial colonies, immersive environments, and phenomena of light, time and observation. Her work has been presented through exhibitions, installations, lectures, conferences, publications and interdisciplinary research projects in Greece and internationally.
